Required Courses for the M.Ed.
and School Psychology Substantive Area
Internship Experience. After successful completion of the second year of training, students will be qualified to apply for an internship credential which will allow a district to pay them for their internship training. Although the UCSB School Psychology area has arrangements with several local school districts for potential paid internships, the program does not guarantee that students will be accepted for one of these internship positions; districts maintain hiring discretion. Students are responsible to seek paid internships. Students are, however guaranteed a non-paid internship placement if the faculty determine them to be ready for this experience.
The internship credential is only required when the student will be reimbursed for their internship service. The internship credential is issued by the credential office at UCSB based on approval from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. This credential allows a school district to hire a school psychology intern (all employees of school districts in California must have a valid credential). The internship credential is limited to cover the time period during which the student will receive supervised internship experience within the district (not longer than two years). The internship credential is valid only for the school district that will hire the student for an internship position. Should a student complete more than one internship (e.g., part-time positions in two districts or half-time positions during different school years) then a separate internship credential agreement is required for each district. Please consult your advisor prior to seeking any internship position.

VI. School Psychology Program Seminar
In addition, as part of the requirements for Ed 268KFWS and
268BFWS, students participate in a school psychology seminar
at which critical issues in the profession of school psychology
are discussed, as well as ongoing program advising. Meetings
are held 2-3 times each quarter.*
*Students enroll for 18 total units of internship when completing the culminating fieldwork experience. However, the credential requirement is for 1200 supervised hours. This must be completed in a P-12 school-based setting. By agreement, UCSB provides a 50% reduction of the Education fee for M.Ed. students enrolled only in Ed 268F for 4 units each quarter.
