Julian Crocker, Ed.D. (Harvard University)
Research Areas and Interests -Teacher education, educational leadership.
The County Superintendent of Schools is a countywide elected office authorized by the State Constitution of California, and has a four-year term. The office is an educational service agency that performs a variety of leadership, oversight, and direct service functions for ten local school districts in the county, serving over 36,000 students.
Dr. Crocker was first elected as County Superintendent in 1998,
and re-elected in 2002 for a second four-year term. Prior to becoming
County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Crocker served as Superintendent
of Schools for the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District for
nine years. He has also been Superintendent of Schools in San Mateo
and Palo Alto, California.
He is a native of Tennessee, coming to California in 1972. He has a bachelor's and master's degree from Vanderbilt University, and his doctorate is from Harvard University. He and his wife, Donna, have four children and live in Cambria.

James Gentilucci, Ph.D. (University of California, Santa Barbara)
Research Areas and Interests -educational leadership and organizations; Educational leadership and administration; school reform and improvement; student perspectives on learning; school business administration.
I received my B.A. in Geography from California State University, Northridge and my M.A. and Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Organizations from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I also have three additional master's degrees in the areas of Information Management (M.S.), Business Administration (M.B.A.), and Computer-Based Education (M.A.). I currently serve as an assistant professor of Educational Leadership in the Department of Graduate Studies in Education at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. My writing and research interests are in the areas of student perspectives on schooling and learning, instructional leadership, and school reform and improvement.

Bonnie Konopak, Ph.D. (University of California, Santa Barbara)
Research Areas and Interests -Literacy, teacher education, educational leadership.
I received my Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University
of California Santa Barbara in 1984, with an emphasis in reading.
Currently, I am Dean and Professor in the College of Education at
California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Prior
to this appointment, I held faculty and administrative positions
at Louisiana State University, University of Oklahoma, and University
of Northern Colorado. My research has focused on literacy, particularly
at the secondary level, and teacher education. I serve on the Board
of Examiners for the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher
Education and on the Board of International Reviewers for International
Recognition in Teacher Education, sponsored by Center for Quality
Assurance in International Education.

George Petersen, Ph.D. (University of California, Santa Barbara)
Research Areas and Interests -Executive leadership of superintendents, school boards and leadership preparation.
I received my Ph.D. in Educational Policy, Organizations and Leadership
Studies from the University of California Santa Barbara. Currently
I am Professor and Co-Director of the UCSB/Cal Poly Joint Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership. Prior to coming to Cal Poly, I was an
Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership
and Policy Analysis at the University of Missouri-Columbia. I also
held the position of Associate Director of the University Council
for Educational Administration (UCEA). UCEA is a consortium of major
research universities focused on improving the preparation of educational
leaders and promoting the development of professional knowledge
in school improvement and administration. I have written and published
books, articles and book chapters examining the executive leadership of the superintendent.
This work has primarily focused on superintendent beliefs, roles,
and work in the area of instructional leadership, policy decision-making,
and social influence in addition to the organizational mission and
academic success of the district.
