FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Do I need to do my pre-professional work in Santa Barbara?

No, it's fine to do your pre-professional hours in another city. Just use the Out of Town Application, Final Verification, and Cooperating Teacher Documentation forms to document your work.

2. Must I use the UCSB forms if my experience is from another city?

You may submit a letter from a teacher or adminstrator that describes your classroom work and number of hours.

3. How do I verify work done through a college course?

Submit a copy of your transcript and a syllabus that details the required K-12 classroom work.

4. How many hours are necessary before the interview for TEP?

We recommend at least 20-30 hours if possible by the time of your interview. Submit the documentation of those hours to Judy Headley in the Pre-Professional Office.

5. Does after-school tutoring, coaching, and similar work count for Pre-Professional hours?

That kind of experience is valuable, and you should document it for your file. However, the basic 60 hours need to be actual K-12 classroom experience.

6. May I use Substitute Teaching for Pre-Professional work?

Yes. If you are MST, just submit a copy of your district time card with an administrator's signature.

If you are SST, then submit the time card with a list of which days were in your subject area, and which were in other subjects.
